I grew up in a family where my mother suffered from a severe anxiety disorder (neurosis). I myself developed full-blown social phobia, social anxiety, and scopophobia (fear of being stared at) during high school (around age 16). Along with these symptoms, I became unable to form natural relationships, and this worsened further during my university years, leading me to live a life avoiding interpersonal relationships. As a result, I often had poor relationships at work and couldn’t hold down a job for long. I also spent long periods as a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) and hikikomori (social recluse) at my parents’ home.
